Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC), in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Guyana and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recently hosted the Environmental Compliance Forum 2026 under the theme “Supporting Responsible Business Practices in Guyana.”
The forum brought together more than 60 representatives from government agencies, the diplomatic community, development partners, industry associations, environmental professionals, and the private sector to discuss emerging environmental compliance priorities, strengthen understanding of regulatory requirements, and promote collaboration in support of sustainable development in Guyana.
The event was organised at a time when Guyana’s rapid economic growth continues to create new opportunities for investment across multiple sectors, while also increasing the importance of sound environmental governance and responsible business practices. Through panel discussions, exhibition booths and networking opportunities, attendees explored practical approaches to environmental compliance and examined the role that regulators, consultants and businesses play in supporting environmentally responsible development.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Shyam Nokta, Vice President of AmCham Guyana and Managing Director of EMC, highlighted that environmental compliance extends beyond regulatory obligations and should be viewed as an integral part of good business governance, risk management, transparency, and sustainability. He also emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between regulators and the private sector to improve understanding of environmental requirements and support responsible development.
