SHYAM NOKTA
Mr. Shyam Nokta holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Assessment and Management from the University of Oxford–Brookes and a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Guyana. Mr. Nokta is also the recipient of several awards and scholarships including the Fulbright Scholarship to pursued Doctoral studies.
Mr. Nokta has overseen the growth and expansion of EMC over the last 10 years to one of Guyana’s premier environmental consultancy firms and which specializes in environmental assessments and support services and which works across a range of sectors including forestry, conservation, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, energy and oil and gas.
Mr. Nokta has accumulated over twenty-five (25) years of experience working in the areas of environmental assessment and management, conservation, tourism development, and climate change and has been involved in major initiatives and projects in Guyana. Mr. Nokta served as Adviser to the President and Head of the Office of Climate Change where he coordinated Guyana’s response to climate change, the development and implementation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and REDD+ Partnership with the Kingdom of Norway. He was also involved in key conservation initiatives such as the establishing of Guyana’s National Protected Areas System and has chaired several national boards and committees in the areas of tourism, conservation and climate change and green growth.
Mr. Nokta held the position of President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) and currently serves as the Chief Representative for the Caribbean for the Delhi-based Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
