EMC’s MD moderates roundtable on opportunities for renewable energy in Guyana. Says platform provided for a frank engagement with stakeholders.

AMCHAM Guyana kicked off its first round table discussions in a series  last Thursday at the Guyana Marriott.

Under the theme Advancing Opportunities in Renewable Energy, EMC’s Managing Director and AMCHAM Guyana Vice President Shyam Nokta, who moderated the discussion, acknowledged the need for engagement on renewable energy and praised AMCHAM for leading the discussion.

According to Nokta, “The Roundtable was successful in providing information on Guyana’s thrust on renewable energy and answering key questions on initiatives aimed at power distribution and generation. It also provided a platform for a frank engagement  with stakeholders and government agencies about the challenges and opportunities that exist in the sector.”

The event saw remarks from the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar, US Ambassador to Guyana HE Sarah Ann Lynch, and President of AMCHAM,  Devindra Kissoon. Panelists were Dr. Mahender Sharma, Head of the Guyana Energy Agency, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, CEO of Go-Invest, Dr. Narsimha Rao of TERI Southern Regional Centre and Energy Efficiency Division, CEO of Guyana Power and Light Mr. Bharat Dindyal and Mr. Craig O’Connor of Export-Import Bank of the USA. The session was chaired by Mrs. Iman Cummings, Vice President of AMCHAM Guyana.
