EMC Inc. Celebrates 20 Years of Providing Environmental Services and Promoting Green Growth
Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC Inc.) proudly marked its 20th anniversary with a corporate reception at the Marriott Hotel on March 28, 2025. The event celebrated two decades of leadership in environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and innovation.
EMC Inc. has grown into one of Guyana’s leading environmental service providers, dedicated to promoting sustainable development through green growth and environmental excellence since its establishment in 2005. Over the years, EMC has expanded its services to include Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Studies (ESIAs); Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs); Environmental Compliance Monitoring, Auditing, and Reporting; Biodiversity Assessment, Monitoring, and Management Planning; and support for various Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs). EMC has supported over 100 local and international clients in fostering environmentally responsible practices through these efforts.
EMC’s Managing Director, Mr. Shyam Nokta, proudly reflected on the company’s journey from a one-person operation to a premier service provider with close to 60 dedicated staff. He stated, “even as we grow and expand, we have remained true to our core principles—delivering quality work, delivering on time, and building the capacity of our team.” He further emphasised EMC’s commitment to building local content capacity, stating, “every project that we undertake incorporates a capacity development component, ensuring that we not only grow our team but also support the partners we work with, whether it’s communities, NGOs, or Government Agencies. Through this approach, we are building a national team and strengthening capacity across various sectors.”
The Prime Minister of Guyana, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Anthony Phillips, delivered the feature address, commending EMC for its contributions to sustainable development in Guyana. He remarked, “As we celebrate this milestone, let us reaffirm our commitment to sustainable development. Let us pledge to uphold the highest environmental standards, support the professionals dedicated to this cause, and ensure that Guyana continues to be a model of responsible growth.” The Prime Minister also congratulated EMC’s management and staff, acknowledging their invaluable work and the lasting impact it will have for generations to come.
Remarks were also shared by esteemed guests, including Mr. Kemraj Parsram, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency; Mr. Komal Singh, Chairman of the Private Sector Commission; Mr. Dane Gobin, Chief Executive Officer of the Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development; and Professor Paulette Bynoe, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Guyana.
The evening’s celebrations also featured cultural performances that highlighted the deep connection between people and the environment. Students of Marian Academy Secondary Environmental Club delivered a captivating environmental-themed poem, while the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Culture Group performed a traditional dance focused on nature preservation and its significance to communities.
EMC extends its sincere appreciation to all team members, Government agencies, private sector organisations, consultants, and partners who have supported its journey over the past 20 years. As the company looks ahead, it remains steadfast in its mission to drive environmental excellence and sustainable development in Guyana and beyond.
