In observance of International Men’s Day 2025 on November 19, 2025, Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC) hosted a Men’s Empowerment Workshop aimed at supporting, uplifting, and celebrating the men of EMC. The session provided a safe, reflective space for male team members to explore themes related to masculinity, emotional well-being, and personal growth.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Dominic Fernandes, a Mental Health Worker, trainer, and facilitator, and was attended by male team members from EMC’s Technical, Marine, Finance and Administrative, and EMC Foundation departments.
Participants were engaged in a series of interactive and thought-provoking activities. These included an emotion-identification drawing exercise using weather-themed illustrations to express feelings, and a silent card game designed to strengthen non-verbal communication and collaborative problem-solving. Team members also examined the difference between empathy and sympathy, discussing how empathy can lead to more meaningful connections in their daily interactions.
A key component of the workshop focused on masculinity and patriarchy, exploring different expressions of masculinity and the societal pressures men often experience. Participants reflected on the physical, mental, and social consequences of suppressing emotions, and discussed healthier approaches to emotional expression. Additional discussions centred on the importance of support systems, navigating grief and loss, establishing personal boundaries, and practising self-care as part of long-term resilience.
The atmosphere throughout the session was open and supportive, creating space for honest and vulnerable conversations. Participants noted that the workshop was meaningful, insightful, and engaging, and appreciated the opportunity to connect with colleagues on a deeper level. Engagements like this reflect EMC’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a healthy workplace culture and supporting the overall well-being of its team members.
