EMC and Hyrdomet Kick-off Water Quality Baseline Programme in the Lower Essequibo River Watershed

Environmental Management Consultants Inc (EMC Inc.) and the Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Agriculture (Hydromet) conducted the inaugural Water Quality Baseline Monitoring of the Lower Essequibo River Watershed on 30 January 2021. The joint Hyromet and EMC Inc. team surveyed and sampled key locations on the Essequibo River’s left and right banks and will work together to develop a monthly summary report detailing the water quality analysis findings and the key observations. The team will also undertake water quality trends analysis.

This exercise is part of the EMC Inc. and Hydromet Meteorology and Water Quality Baseline Programme to build a robust meteorological and water quality database for the Lower Essequibo River Watershed to support environmental analysis and contribute to integrated resource governance and management in the area. This important watershed has increasingly come under threat.
