Empowering Future Scientists: EMC Supports UG Student’s Water Quality Research
Environmental Management Consultants Inc (EMC) is committed to fostering scientific research and environmental protection. This commitment was exemplified through the recent support to Sasha Bentham, a University of Guyana student, to conduct critical water quality assessments for her final-year research project.
Ms. Bentham’s study focused on evaluating the water quality of the National Park and Botanical Gardens, examining key physio-chemical parameters and microbial contaminants to assess the health of the aquatic ecosystems. Her research aimed to determine how these parameters fluctuate across different seasons.
Using a range of analytical methods, Ms. Bentham conducted tests for pH, turbidity, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and conductivity, among other parameters. These assessments helped to establish baseline conditions, identify potential pollutants, and contribute to a better understanding of urban freshwater ecosystems. Throughout her research, Sasha received guidance and technical support from EMC’s Senior Environmental Officer, Tishawanna Harry, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
By providing research support, mentorship, and access to resources, EMC remains steadfast in its mission to help nurture and support the next generation of environmental scientists.
