Efficient Coordination is Vital to Project Implementation

Aletha Jewanram is an Administrative Officer at EMC and provides vital support to the marine team.

As an Administrative Officer, my job is to ensure that the office functions efficiently and collectively and the marine team’s day-to-day operations run smoothly. This can involve everything from field trip logistics, data entry, budgeting, reporting, and filing, to ensure we meet our goals. An essential part of my job is safeguarding the health and safety of my team members by ensuring they are well-equipped and prepared physically and mentally for each activity.

The best part of my job is planning field trips because I learn a lot about the different parts of Guyana, the people that live there, and the issues that affect them. It is also exciting and educational to learn about marine life and the different ecosystems in the country and be involved in research that aims to protect them.

I advise anyone who wants to join the environmental field and work in administration to be optimistic, committed, dedicated, and patient because we are contributing to national and global efforts to protect the environment, which is a big task.
