Managing Director

Mr. Shyam Nokta holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Assessment and Management from the University of Oxford–Brookes and a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Guyana. Mr. Nokta is also the recipient of several awards and scholarships including the Fulbright Scholarship to pursued Doctoral studies.

Mr. Nokta has overseen the growth and expansion of EMC over the last 10 years to one of Guyana’s premier environmental consultancy firms and which specializes in environmental assessments and support services and which works across a range of sectors including forestry, conservation, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, energy and oil and gas.

Mr. Nokta has accumulated over twenty (20) years of experience working in the areas of environmental assessment and management, conservation, tourism development, and climate change and has been involved in major initiatives and projects in Guyana. Mr. Nokta served as Adviser to the President and Head of the Office of Climate Change where he coordinated Guyana’s response to climate change, the development and implementation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and REDD+ Partnership with the Kingdom of Norway. He was also involved in key conservation initiatives such as the establishing of Guyana’s National Protected Areas System and has chaired several national boards and committees in the areas of tourism, conservation and climate change and green growth.

Mr. Nokta held the position of President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) and currently serves as the Chief Representative for the Caribbean for the Delhi-based Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).


Projects Manager

Mr. Khalid Alladin has a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Major-Geography, Minor-Law) from the University of Guyana.

Mr. Alladin has in excess of eighteen(18) years’ experience in environmental management. At EMC he has gained significant experience having been involved in conducting environmental impact assessments (EIAs); preparing strategic environmental assessments (SEAs) and environmental management plans (EMPs) and environmental auditing and monitoring.

Previously Mr. Alladin was employed at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where he served in various positions, including as Head of the Environmental Management Division. His experience includes project management, environmental monitoring, capacity building, training, research and report preparation.


Senior Environmental Officer

Ms. Kandila Ramotar holds a Master in Science in Carbon Management form the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Guyana. Ms. Ramotar previously worked with the Government of Guyana supporting the implementation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and climate change negotiations under the UNFCCC.

At EMC, Ms. Ramotar supports environmental compliance monitoring and reporting and is focused on projects int he oil and gas, infrastructure and energy sectors. In addition, she provides technical input to the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Management Plans.


Administrative & Finance Manager

Ms. Sharmattie Ramnath holds an ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting & Business and a Diploma in Accountancy and has accumulated over ten (10) years of experience working in the areas of administration and accounting in both the public and private sector in Guyana.

Ms. Ramnath has been with EMC for over 10 years and is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the office and coordination of projects.


Environmental Officer

Ms. Tishawanna Harry has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Guyana and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Management at the University of Guyana.

Ms. Harry supports environmental compliance monitoring and reporting, working mainly on mining and infrastructure projects and also supporting the preparation of Environmental Management Plans. Ms. Harry has lead responsibility at EMC for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) matters.


Program Coordinator

Mr. Michael Philander has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Guyana and experience in marine fisheries.

Mr. Philander coordinates a Participatory Fish Study to collect, document and report on fishing activities by artisanal fisherfolks along the coast of Guyana.


Administrative Officer

Mr. Safraz Khan has a Certificate in Business and over four years of experience in marketing and office administration.

Mr. Khan provides support to the EMC Management Team in the overall activities and management of the operations of EMC and the coordination of projects. Mr. Khan has responsibility in assisting with Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) matters.


Financial Consultant

Mrs. Malisa Nokta is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Member and holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Australia Institute of Business and a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Guyana.

Mrs. Nokta has accumulated over ten (10) years of experience working in the areas of accounting, finance and human resources management in both public and private organisations in Guyana.


Climate Change, Land Policy & Planning and Environment Consultant

Mr. Andrew Bishop holds a Master of Arts (Geography/Regional Development from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelors of Arts (Geography; Economics minor) from York University.

Mr. Bishop has accumulated over thirty (30) years of experience and has been actively involved in the area of land planning and management and climate change. Mr. Bishop served as Adviser to the President and Lead Climate Change Negotiator to the UNFCCC. He previously held the portfolio of Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission where he was responsible for public land management, land policy and national land use planning and spearheaded Guyana’s national land use policy and plan.


Environmental and Social Consultant

Mr. Lakshman Richard Persaud holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Research Methods – Development Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Double Major Degree (Geography/Economics) from the University of Guyana.

Mr. Persaud has over ten (10) years’ experience in coordinating and conducting the social aspects of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs). He has designed and conducted social surveys for impact and implementation evaluations for the Poor Rural Communities Support Services Project and has conducted community stakeholder engagement at the national and regional level as part of the development of the National Land Use Plan for Guyana under the Development of Land Use Planning Project of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission.


GIS Consultant

Mr. Enrique George Monize has a Diploma (Credit) in Project Management; Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography (Minor: Environmental Studies) and Diploma in Computer Science.

At EMC Mr. Monize has been involved in preparing digitial maps and coverages for Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Reports and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) as well as being involved in environmental compliance monitoring of infrastructure projects.

Mr. Monize has over nine (9) years’ experience working in the areas of GIS and ArcGIS 10, developing Geodatabases, Metadata, QA/QC for GIS Data, Data Automation and Spatial Analysis. His experience includes Senior GIS Officer and Head of the GIS Unit, Environmental Protection Agency, Guyana.


Environmental Law Consultant

Mr. Teni Housty is an Environmental Law Specialist with over twenty (20) years’ experience. Mr. Housty’s academic qualifications include a Master of Business Administration (Distinction) from the University of Liverpool, a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad and Tobago and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. Mr. Housty specializes in environmental, intellectual property, human rights, cyber, telecommunications and communications law. He has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the legal, regulatory and policy issues surrounding Disaster Risk Management and of the methods of alternative dispute resolution, including mediations and arbitrations.

As Senior Partner at Fraser, Housty & Yearwood Attorney-at-Law, he has extensive experience in both traditional and emerging fields of law, has completed several projects and engagements for a wide cross-section of clients including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and other International Development Partners (IDPs) (UNDP & UNEP), private and public sector agencies (the Environmental Protection Agency among them), as well as Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
